Im Yoon-acite-ref-smtown-live-10-world-tour-in-2-0[2] nasce il 30 maggio 1990 a mwegSeul, mwewCorea del Sud. La famiglia è formata dal padre e da una sorella maggiorecite-ref-3[3]. Durante l'infanzia, ascoltando il gruppo femminile S.E.S, sogna di diventare una cantante e, nel 2002, passa le audizioni aperte della mwgaS.M. Entertainment, allenandosi per cinque anni in canto, ballo e recitazionecite-ref-4[4]. Intanto, compare in alcuni video musicali e pubblicità, come il video di mwhqMagic Castle dei mwhgTVXQ nel 2005cite-ref-5[5]. Si è diplomata alla Daeyoung High School nel 2009 e laureata in Teatro e Cinema alla Dongguk University a febbraio 2015, dalla quale ha ricevuto un premio alla carrieracite-ref-6[6]cite-ref-7[7].

Im Yoon-acite-ref-smtown-live-10-world-tour-in-2-1[2] debutta come cantante e ballerina ad agosto 2007 nel gruppo femminile mwmqGirls' Generation, del quale è il voltocite-ref-8[8]. Parallelamente debutta anche come attrice con un piccolo ruolo nel mwngdrama coreano mwnwmwoa9hoemal 2 outcite-ref-9[9] e nel mwpq2008 fa un mwpgcameo in mwpwCheonha-ilsaek Park Jeong-geumcite-ref-10[10].

A maggio 2008 ottiene il primo ruolo da protagonista in mwrgmwrwNeoneun nae unmyeong nel ruolo di Jang Sae-byuk. Partito con un indice di ascolto del 23,4%cite-ref-11[11], alcuni episodi seguenti raggiungono il 41,5%cite-ref-12[12]. Per questo drama Im Yoo-na ha vinto molti premi, tra cui due "Miglior nuova attrice" ai KBS Drama Awards 2008cite-ref-13[13] e ai Baeksang Arts Awardscite-ref-mwave-interest-me-14-0[14]. Nel 2009 prende parte al drama mwwamwwqCinderella Man con Kwon Sang-woocite-ref-15[15], mentre nel 2010 appare in un episodio del varietà mwxwFamily ga tteotda, diventando membro del cast fisso nella seconda stagione, che va in onda da febbraio a luglio dello stesso annocite-ref-16[16].

A marzo 2012 torna nel drama mwzgmwzwSarangbi, nel quale interpreta due personaggi, Kim Yoon-hee negli anni Settanta e sua figlia Ha-na nel presentecite-ref-17[17]cite-ref-18[18]cite-ref-19[19]. Nonostante la serie non abbia avuto un grande successo in patriacite-ref-20[20], la recitazione di Im Yoo-na ha ricevuto commenti positivi: Yoon Ga-ee di OSEN ha scritto "La velocità a cui la sua recitazione sta migliorando è accecante. Dal 3 gennaio mwka2015 gira il drama cinese mwkqWushen Zhao Zilong, che narra la vita di mwkwZhao Yuncite-ref-24[24].
